Sakai’s winter conferences are scheduled from Wednesday, January 25, through Friday, January 27, 2012. These conferences give students, parents, and teachers the opportunity to meet face-to-face in classrooms. Teachers and students will discuss with parents individual student work and behavior habits, assignments, and progress.
There will be no school for students during these three days of conferences, but students will be required to attend the conference.

Our science program at Sonoji Sakai Intermediate School fosters the joy of science through the processes of inquiry, discovery, collaboration and communication. It also stimulates and encourages curiosity, persistence, and enthusiasm for a lifelong learning about the world while introducing students to the principles scientists share about the natural world.
There are three major units taught at the sixth grade level: The Nature of Science, NavOps, and The Human Body. Click on the links listed below for copies of labs, assignments, and homework.

We are using a new curriculum this year: The Reader's Journey by Prentice Hall.
Language Arts is taught twice during the normal school day. Students work on their personal reading goals during Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) from 8:45 to 9:15. At the end of the day (2:15 - 3:00) students come in from break to work through a Reader's Journey unit in which reading, writing, and communicating are integrated. In the first semester, students will rotate with their homeroom class through three Reader's Journey units. How do we decide what is true? is taught by Mrs. Evans, Do we need words to communicate? is taught by Mr. Harris, and Is conflict always bad? is taught by Ms. Jeffers. In the second semester, the students will also rotate through three different units. There will be an independent research project at the end of the school year.
There are 6 units:
- Unit 2: Is conflict always bad?
- Unit 3: What is important to know?
- Unit 4: Do we need words to communicate well?
- Unit 5: How do we decide who we are?
